Welcome to XboxIssues

Welcome. I decided to make this blog after being a Xbox Ambassador for a number of years.

If you don't know an Ambassador is a Volunteer that Microsoft uses to help ease the load on the actual hard working support people.

I noticed that alot of the questions I would get could easily be solved by using Microsofts Xbox.com site.

Since some of the help articles may be hard to find, understand or the issue may be called something different in the gaming community making it more difficult to solve, I've decided to make this blog to make it easier for fellow gamers to get xbox assistance, news and all things Xbox.

If you have any Xbox related question you can find the answer to feel free to contact me on YouTube, twitter or in the comments.

NEWS: Phil Spencer confirms that Microsoft is working on an Xbox handheld (Rumor?)

Microsoft is officially exploring the handheld gaming market, with Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently confirming that the company is working on prototype devices. In an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer revealed that Microsoft is assessing its options and taking early steps toward developing a handheld. He noted that, although there’s nothing definitive yet, the team’s expectation is to eventually enter the handheld category. To guide the design process, Spencer has tasked his team with analyzing existing handheld devices to shape Microsoft’s own vision.

While Spencer expressed enthusiasm, he set clear expectations by stating that any final handheld console is likely still a few years away. During the 2024 Summer Game Fest, he responded to questions about handheld gaming rumors, suggesting that he personally supports the idea of an Xbox handheld: “So we should have a handheld? I think we should have a handheld too,” he remarked, while stopping short of confirming an active project.

Microsoft’s recent moves reflect a broader strategy to reach gamers on multiple platforms, a philosophy Spencer reiterated in the Bloomberg interview. As part of this approach, Microsoft has already begun rolling out Xbox titles on other systems and, according to Spencer, there are no “red lines” limiting their willingness to bring more Xbox games to PlayStation. This shift highlights Microsoft’s commitment to making Xbox content more widely accessible, regardless of the device or platform, as they seek to meet players wherever they are.

Spencer’s statements come as Microsoft navigates a rapidly evolving gaming landscape, where handheld devices like the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and ROG Ally have captured attention. By exploring this path, Microsoft is positioning itself to potentially offer its own unique device, possibly linked to its Game Pass service and cloud gaming initiatives, giving players new ways to engage with the Xbox ecosystem beyond traditional consoles.

NEWS: Epic says PS4/Xbox One crossplay was a mistake, Phil Spencer says 'leave it on'

Remember when people thought they had discovered the secret holy grail of PS4 and Xbox One crossplay, even though Sony has already said "no way" to it? Well, it was a mistake.

Epic Games has since clarified that it was a "configuration issue" and has been since fixed, which is a huge bummer on Sony's part. It's still hilarious that Epic, willingly or not, decided to flip a switch and connect 60 million more potential players via PS4 with the rest of the playerbase, and that in one fell swoop, Sony put the kibosh on more power to their players. There's a lot of fishiness going on right now with Fornite, which debuted on PS4, as the Xbox version was also patched to eliminate a pool of PC players. Xbox boss Phil Spencer only had this to say following the snafu: "I would have liked to see them leave it on."

Sony eventually needs to answer this call. Maybe not now, while they're riding high at 60 million PS4 units sold, but if the Switch keeps rising up, it'll be too big to be ignored. Nintendo has already agreed to do business with Microsoft with Minecraft and have fostered a relationship, so all Sony has to do is come in and agree to crossplay.

Shortly after, more images appeared on the page with one father and son duo even posting an image of them playing side by side on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Considering the current stance on cross-platform play between Xbox and PlayStation is that it’s absolutely not happening, this is a surprising development.

NEWS: Cross-platform play may have arrived on Xbox and PlayStation

Taking to Reddit, Fortnite players have posted screenshots of their gameplay which appear to show Xbox gamertags appearing in matches being played on PlayStation 4 consoles.

Redditor PRE_-CISION-_ was the first to post an image of an Xbox gamertag appearing in his game and naturally the entire community started digging into the matter. It appears that the player was indeed an Xbox user and that they were playing on an Xbox console, not a PC, meaning it really does appear cross-platform play was happening.

Shortly after, more images appeared on the page with one father and son duo even posting an image of them playing side by side on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Considering the current stance on cross-platform play between Xbox and PlayStation is that it’s absolutely not happening, this is a surprising development.

This isn’t because such a feature would be impossible to implement, but rather because Sony appears to have no interest in it. Only recently Rocket League cross-platform play was switched on between Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch while Sony’s PlayStation remained notably absent from the lineup.

RUMOR: E3 website hints that we might see Xbox One VR in just a few days

The official E3 2016 website is hinting that we might see some VR-related goodies at Microsoft's Xbox showcase. That, or someone's made a significant clerical error.

With Sony's PS VR already in the hands of developers and set to hit living rooms in October, speculation has been building around Microsoft's plans to bring virtual reality to Xbox One owners.

Now, someone on NeoGAF has spotted that the E3 website has added an Xbox One Virtual Reality category, which four developers are currently registered under: Rebellion, 3DRudder, Maximum Games, and Readily Information Company.

Rebellion developed Battlezone VR for PlayStation VR, while 3D Rudder produces a feet-based virtual reality controller - so there's reason for them to be on the list.

RUMOR: At least one Xbox One virtual reality game is already in the works

As we brace ourselves for E3 2016 (14-16 June, gaming fans), the speculation is ramping up about what we can expect to see. With the Xbox One trailing Sony's PS4 in the console race, the pressure's on Microsoft to come up with something of note.

The logical next step is virtual reality, what with the PlayStation VR arriving later this year, and a major development studio has confirmed to Ars Technica that it does indeed have an Xbox One VR title in the works for a planned 2017 launch.

Microsoft's current flagship console doesn't have VR capabilities or indeed a VR-compatible headset to go with it, so it sounds very much like some upgraded hardware is on the way - hardware this dev studio is targeting.

Getting in the VR game
Unfortunately, we don't know the name of the studio or the name of the game, but Ars Technica says the title will be demoed on PC or PS4 at this year's E3. Apparently, we're talking about "an established, long-running franchise" developed by a European studio here, so make of that what you will.

The obvious conclusion is that there's a VR version of the Xbox One coming next year: churning out high-resolution, virtual reality graphics requires a heck of a lot of processing power, which is why many industry insiders think a more powerful PS4 is also on the way.

Is Microsoft going to take the wraps off an Oculus Rift-ready, enhanced Xbox One at E3 2016? It's impossible to say for sure, but this is another hint in that direction. As usual, we'll bring you all of the E3 news from LA as it happens.

RUMOR: More E3 Xbox VR Talk

The ESA recently added the ability to search E3 2016's official website for the category 'Xbox One virtual reality' and it appears as though multiple companies have registered under said category, including: Maximum Games, Rebellion, Readily Information Company and 3DRudder.

You may be familiar with a couple of these companies, as Maximum Games is the maker of Farming Simulator and WRC series, and Rebellion is team behind Battlezone 98 Redux and the Sniper Elite series.

E3 2016 RUMOR: Xbox VR Coming Next Year?

It's almost a foregone conclusion that Microsoft will unveil at least one new and upgraded model of Xbox One at this year's E3. It was originally believed that a souped-up version of what released in late 2013 would serve to fix the performance gap that has existed between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Better hardware would mean that it could (theoretically) hit higher framerates, output at higher resolutions -- the kind of technical things that have held back some titles on Xbox over the past three years.

New developments indicate that an improved Xbox One might also serve the purpose of being virtual reality-capable. As reported by Ars Technica, a PR representative reached out to the site to book an E3 appointment for a VR game on PC, PS4, and Xbox One that is being developed by a well-known European studio. Further, the game is "set in the universe of an established, long-running franchise."
This is more than a PR mix-up. Ars responded to confirm that the rep intended to include Xbox as a platform; the rep replied in the affirmative.

Barring some kind of last-minute audible from Microsoft, it sure seems like VR for Xbox is all but certain. This may have been foreshadowed by Microsoft teaming up with Oculus last year to ship new Rift headsets with an Xbox One controller. Conventional logic would dictate an E3 press conference reveal, but maybe new hardware will be enough for one show. We'll find out in a little more than two weeks' time.

RUMOR: Microsoft playing with the idea of trading in digital games for store credit

For all the convenience of being able to buy any game you want and download it directly to your console, there aren't a lot of options for you once you've finished the game.

That could possibly change for Xbox One users though, with a survey appearing on Reddit over the weekend indicating that Microsoft is looking at the possibility of letting users trade in their digital games for store credit.

The exchange rate appears to be a slightly less than what you would get for trading in a physical copy, with Microsoft suggesting that a 10% store credit would be on offer.
Trading places

If you cast your minds back to Microsoft's original Xbox One reveal, there was a lot of criticism and confusion around the company's strategy to limit physically traded-in games.
But given the backflips performed since then, it's not surprising that Microsoft is beginning to explore the possibilities of trading digital copies.

While there's no physical product, there's still a software license, and if Microsoft could buy it back cheaply and then resell it at full price, there's a real opportunity for the gaming company to make a decent profit.

At this stage, it's not certain if the situation will ever proceed past the question-on-a-survey stage, but if it does it could create a significant change in the marketplace.

RUMOR: Xbox One Slim to launch this year

According to new reports, Microsoft is planning to release a digital-only "slim" Xbox One later in 2016.
If true, the new console will cost less than the current MSRP of the Xbox One, $350.

Microsoft blogger Brad Sams calls the reported console a "lightweight Xbox One," and expects it will launch in time for the holiday season.

To lose its weight and keep the price down, the new Xbox One will only allow for digital downloads and will not have a disc drive. Says the blogger: "I have heard from internal sources that the company is considering plans for a lightweight Xbox One that may only be for Windows store games and would compete with the Apple TV. But it's not clear if these plans have been scrapped."

The idea is certainly interesting, especially if the price drops significantly under that of the original Xbox One (let's say, $199) and if the new console includes some extra home entertainment features.

RUMOR CONFIRMED: Xbox One with a 1TB hard drive

Amazon just made that even easier. The hardware speculation surrounding the Redmond giant was that there'd be a new base model of Xbox One with a 1TB hard drive, and that an updated controller was set to release that featured a 3.5mm audio jack instead of a proprietary one. A listing on Amazon reveals a $400 Xbox One bundle that comes with both of those and a copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It has a release date of June 15, which is the Monday of Microsoft's press conference. Of course, you can pre-order it now if you'd like.

UPDATE:  Amazon has since removed that listing, and if you try the link above you get a 404.

UPDATE 2: Confirmed

RUMOR CONFIRMED:: Xbox One getting newer controller after E3

It seems as if there's a subtle but big change on the horizon for the Xbox One controller. The current model features a proprietary audio jack that requires an adapter (sold separately for $25) to use with normal headphones. Microsoft looks to be doing away with that and releasing a new controller with a standard 3.5mm jack.

This news appears to be a bit more credible than your average pre-E3 rumor if only because Microsoft posted it on its own website (presumably prematurely). Item 16 clearly denotes a 3.5mm port which is "only available on controllers released after June 2015." A screenshot is posted below in case the site is updated.

It's unknown if there will be any additional changes to the Xbox One controller. We'll probably find out at Microsoft's E3 press conference, where this will likely be announced.

RUMOR: Xbox One owners may get Star Wars Battlefront before the PS4

Xbox Marketing manager Aaron Greenberg has strongly hinted on Twitter that the game will launch earlier in the Xbox One via EA Access. Access is currently only available on the Xbox One, and gives users access to certain titles five days ahead of general release. Unfortunately it doesn't look like EA Access will launch on the PlayStation 4 any time soon. So for the time being, Xboxers will be the first ones returning to the Star Wars universe. We're chasing this up with Microsoft now for confirmation.
